Bird Pest Control

Our technicians will help solve your problem by using effective and human methods - we will not harm any birds during the process.

All staff undergo thorough health and safety training prior to completing any work on a bird infestation. We are also IPAF qualified, which means we have the ability to work safely at height. This is particularly useful in dealing with this type of infestation, as birds often roost in high areas on buildings.

FAQs

The basics

Will your solution harm birds?

No, we only use humane methods for treating birds. No harm will be done to birds during our services.

What is the law?

Wild birds are protected by law in the UK, so no harm can come to them or prosecution could result.

Bird control is an effective method for dealing with birds, but you must have a licence to carry out any work relating to this. Our qualified persons will strictly follow the procedures set out under this, which details the types of birds applicable to each licence.

The protection of wildlife is governed by the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981. According to Gov.uk, there are only a couple of grounds for interrupting birds, which include to maintain air safety, to stop illness and disease developing, and to protect the well-being of the public.

How long do pigeons live for?

The average lifespan for a pigeon is approximately 6 years. However, if they are kept domestically, this increases to around 15 years.

What are some signs of a bird infestation?

Some of the most common signs of a bird infestation include visible nesting or droppings. You may also notice their presence by hearing cawing sounds when they are in the nearby area.

Bad odours and the sight of fleas or other pests like mice are another indication that you may have a bird problem. It is incredibly important that you do not attempt to deal with this yourself, however, as there are laws that protect wild birds from being harmed.

What diseases can birds carry?

There are many diseases that birds carry which can affect human health. For example:

  • Salmonellosis - This originates from bird droppings, and can come into the atmosphere through ventilation. It is a contaminant that may cause real health issues.
  • E.coli - This disease occurs when birds eat manure from cows. This might contaminate water and food supplies, thereby making humans ill if they encounter it.
  • Avian flu - Even though this illness is rare, it is able to spread through birds and infect humans.
  • Histoplasmosis - This is a kind of fungi that may affect the lungs. Its source is bird droppings, and humans can develop it through inhalation.

Bird prevention

Buildings in towns and cities provide birds with the perfect space to nest, be it on balconies or window ledges. One of the simplest ways to prevent a bird infestation is to keep food away from them.

This includes sealing bins once the rubbish has been taken out and covering food that is left out on countertops. Once one bird has started to nest, others may follow. This is why it is best to deal with the situation promptly before it gets out of control.

Bird pest treatments are an effective way of dealing with birds, but there are strict laws in place which regulate this industry. For instance, bird eggs are safeguarded within the law so cannot be interfered with or you could face prosecution.
