Why does mould grow in grout and silicone?
Grout and silicone are particularly vulnerable to mould growth as they tend to get wet frequently whether splashed by water when washing or cooking, or from condensation dripping off cold surfaces like walls and tiles.
Grout is a porous, highly absorbent material which is slow to dry out, as well, making it the ideal breeding ground for mould.
Although silicone sealant is waterproof, any gaps can allow moisture to get behind it and mould to grow which will spread to the surface of the sealant.
