Not only can hydraulic oil spills cause hazards for humans, but they can also have a detrimental effect on the environment and wildlife.

Diesel spillages create a range of dangers for not just parties directly involved, but all road users. According to Highways England, the majority of diesel spills are caused by heavy goods vehicles (HGV).

Common causes of diesel spills

The most common causes of diesel spills triggered by heavy goods vehicles are road traffic collisions, whereby ruptured diesel tanks leak large amounts of oil. This can be extremely dangerous for road users, particularly on busy roads, such as motorways. An oil spill can cause a car’s tyres to lose grip on the road and may provoke a sense of panic in oncoming drivers.

Another major cause is spillage during filling. This occurs if individuals over-fill the diesel cap, due to lack of concentration, do not close the fuel cap properly or do not realise the nozzle has fallen out.

Whilst this type of diesel spill is less likely to create such devastating risks for road users, the situation still poses a threat to the health of all parties involved. More often than not, drivers do not realise their diesel tank is leaking or faulty until it’s too late, by which time the lives of innocent members of the public have been affected.

When accidents happen, knowing who to call can make a drastic difference to the number of lives affected. Whether you’ve caused or are responsible for dealing with the aftermath of a diesel spill, call us.

As a nationwide company, we can arrive on-site within hours of your call to assess the situation and provide our services accordingly. We’ll give you the peace of mind that all traces of diesel have been eliminated from the site, leaving the area safe for all road users and clear of hazards.
